"Anyone who is a wildlife enthusiast, and in particular has a fascination with lions, will be familiar with the chilling historical account of 'The Man-eaters of Tsavo." These two maneless male lions (a trait still present in male lions of that region today) hunted down and killed a substantial number of African and Indian railway workers between March and December of 1898 during construction of the Uganda Railway, which ran through Tsavo, Kenya at the turn of the century. After their reign of terror, the lions were eventually killed by Colonel John Henry Patterson, who was assigned to oversee the construction of the Tsavo bridge."
